Nice LATimes piece on impacts of shutdown of CA redevelopment agencies, and what it might do to arts programs and funding. No good answers yet.
This will create a lot of uncertainty in areas of downtown as CRA/LA projects lose funding when the agency is dissolved in a couple of weeks. State needs to figure out ways to avoid at least the worst impacts of what it has created.
Shutdown of LA’s redevelopment agency has some big potential implications for the Arts District and rest of downtown, which the agency has steadily been transforming for more than 40 years.

Angeleno magazine names CRA/LA cultural affairs planner Susan Gray one of the city’s most important arts figures this year, in part for her work shepherding the public art program at the W Hotel in CRA/LA’s Hollywood project area. Congratulations to Susan for her important work!

The CRA/LA board is scheduled to hear this project in its Thursday board meeting. It would bring hundreds more housing units and a community market to the Eight and Grand area.
See, Mom! It really IS cool to be in downtown LA these days. Even the NY Times says so. The Arts District is taking off in lots of ways, with a lot of interesting projects, restaurants, galleries, events and much else.
The city’s Community Redevelopment Agency has had a big piece of this too, working closely with the area’s Business Improvement District on numerous projects, including the recently opened LA Cleantech Incubator and much else. Now, they just need to get some more interesting cleantech startups based there.
